Jaguars Fall Twice In Louisiana
Shreveport, LA- The Jaguars women's soccer team went on the road to face off against Louisiana Christian University and LSU-Shreveport. This road trip and last week's homestand had RRAC tournament implications, and unfortunately for the Jaguars, just like last week, the Jaguars found themselves on the losing end of both matches.
Thursday's match against the Wildcats of Louisiana Christian was a match where the Jaguars played well enough in spurts but otherwise looked out of sorts for much of the 90:00. It was a bit of a slow bleed in that goals for the Wildcats did not come in a bevy but instead parsed out throughout the match. The Wildcats first goal, and the only goal of the first half, came at the 25:20 mark, sending the Jaguars into half time only down one. Unfortunately, the Wildcats would come out and continue to chip away at the Jaguars with a goal at the 54:55 mark and another at the 76:08 mark giving the Wildcats a comfortable win.
Saturday's match against the Pilots of LSU-Shreveport was a chance at an amount of redemption for the Jaguars. To be sure, the stat lines from the match were not pretty, but the Jaguars managed to play well enough against the Pilots to, at the very least, make them earn it. Jaguars Coach Tim Moody, never afraid to make the adjustments he sees fit, changed up personnel and style of play in an effort to meet the Pilots on more even ground. The Pilots only managed to score one goal at the 11:46 mark, proving Coach Moody's tactical shift to be of value. However, after half time, the Pilots were able to make the necessary adjustments of their own and put goals in at the 62:06 and 69:16 marks giving them a commanding 3-0 lead. The Jaguars not being inclined to give another team a clean sheet, kept fighting and were able to make things interesting with two Avry Scott goals at the 82:01 and 83:41 marks. With the Jaguars running out of time, however, the match was dropped 3-2 to a high-quality Shreveport side.
The Jaguars women's soccer team is now 2-9-1 overall and 1-5 in RRAC play. With the conference making the unfortunate decision to drop the RRAC tournament to six qualifying teams down from eight, it is safe to say the Jaguars need everything to go their way over the next two to three weeks, but the good news is they have all the conference's top teams behind them. The Jaguars will next face Texas College in Tyler on October 16th.
