Women's Soccer Secures Shutout at SAGU
Waxahachie, TX-The Jaguar women got their first win of the season this past Saturday with a 1-0 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU). The win moves the Jaguar's to 1-0 for the season with RRAC play beginning on Thursday September 14th.
The Jaguar's got on the board within just 14 minutes of play with an Ana Barragan strike. The Jaguar's more-or-less controlled the stats for the entire match, and the lone goal from Barragan was all the Jaguar's needed to secure the shutout victory over SAGU.
Coach Fredy Sanguinetti is happy for the win but knows there is more work to be done. "The win was definitely a step in the right direction. The women have worked hard to represent A&M-San Antonio to the best of their ability. SAGU has such a strong and well coached team and really had us having to dig deep in that second half to maintain the 1-0 lead. The challenges presented in the game let us know what we are doing well, but also gave us a better idea of what we need to work on to be ready for conference play."
The Jaguar's open RRAC play on Thursday September 14th at 1:00pm at home against system rival Texas A&M-Texarkana. Texas A&M-Texarkana are the defending RRAC champions and were picked by the league's coaches to repeat as such.
