Jaguar Women To Officially Start 2023 Soccer Season
San Antonio, TX- The Jaguar Women's Soccer Team is set to start their 2023 season this coming Saturday (September 9th) on the road at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU). This season marks the third campaign for the women's soccer program. The women, like the men, are coming off a much-improved season where they qualified for the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Tournament for the first time. Head Coach Fredy Sanguinetti is optimistic about the season.
"I am not sure I necessarily had any expectations last year other than to make sure we took control of the things we could control. I knew a little bit about the RRAC coming into last season, but if you know anything about the RRAC you know that there are very few consistencies. Just like last year the best thing we can do as a team is to focus on being the best that we can be. If we can in fact do that then I like our chances to repeat in making the conference tournament."
The women's soccer roster is one that features several new faces. Coach Sanguinetti is excited about adding new women to the roster. "We were very strategic in bringing in the women that we brought in. We brought in a lot of skill and technical ability. The women that were brought in will help to facilitate the type of play that we want to see."
Coach Sanguinetti is also excited about his returners. "We are bringing back a handful of women that played quality soccer for us last year. With the women that we added, and the women we are bringing back, we are looking pretty good."
The Jaguar women were picked in the Red River Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Poll to finish in 6th place. That projection is a far cry from the previous year when the Jaguars were picked to finish near the bottom of the RRAC. It is a team that will no doubt be more respected and likely not taken for granted.
