Women’s Soccer Falls to LSU-Alexandria in Round One of the RRAC Playoffs

ALEXANDRIA, La. – For the first time in the two year existence of the program, the women's soccer team qualified for the Red River Athletic Conference Postseason tournament. TAMUSA traveled to Alexandria Louisiana to take on Louisiana State University of Alexandria in the first round of the RRAC Women's Soccer Tournament. Despite a late push by the Jaguars, LSUA won by a score of 5-2.

The Generals scored four first half goals then added one more before A&M-San Antonio scored two goals to cut into the deficit. Freshman Daniela Garcia (San Antonio) and sophomore Brooke Theis (Spokane, Washington) each scored a goal in the first round playoff loss.

How It Happened

LSUA took the first shot of the day but sophomore goalkeeper Maram Abdeljaber (El Paso, Texas/Franklin) stepped in front to make the save. The Generals also took the first corner of the afternoon but TAMUSA defended the service. In the 12th minute of the match, LSUA found the back of the net for the first goal of the day. In the 20th minute, freshman Keyla Torres (Sharyland, Texas) came in at goalkeeper and recorded her first save of the day a few minutes later. LSU-Alexandria then added three more goals to extend their lead to 4-0 as the first half ended.

A few minutes into the second half, the Generals added their fifth goal of the afternoon. Freshman Julia Pace (San Antonio, Texas) took the first shot of the day for the Jaguars in the 51st minute. Moments later, sophomore Rheanna Lopez (El Paso, Texas/Americas) assisted Garcia for the Jaguars first goal of the tournament. With about five minutes left in the match, Theis scored to make the score 5-2 in favor of the Generals. TAMUSA continued to fight but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Texas A&M University-San Antonio finished the season with a (9-4-3, 6-3-2 RRAC) record after only winning three matches during the 2021 season.
