Men's Golf Four Strokes Behind #8 Wayland Baptist after Day One

PLAINVIEW, Texas – The Men's Golf team came out hot on day one of the Wayland Baptist Invitational despite the poor weather conditions. All six teams were only able to get through 27 holes due to inclement weather but the Jaguars are currently in second place. No. 8 Wayland Baptist University is currently in first place with a team score of 280 (-4).

A&M-San Antonio is four strokes behind the leader with a combined team score of 284 (E). The Jaguars had a strong round one performance on the 6,354-yard, par 70 course. Freshman Jacob Pena (Victoria, Texas) shot a career low round one score of 67 and was tied individually for first place. Sophomore David Rodriguez (Edinburg, Texas) shot a round one score of 71 to contribute to the combined team score.

Freshman Oskar Blomdahl and senior Jordan Hardin both shot 73 in their first rounds of play. Junior Javy Jazo (Freeport, Ill. / Aquin Catholic High School) rounded out the team cards with a 75 after one round of play.

Senior Ethan Perez (San Antonio, Texas) competed as an individual and shot a 71 after 18 holes.

The Jaguars along with the rest of the golfers will finish round two tomorrow morning then play the third round to conclude the tournament.
