Jaguar Athletics Named Gold Star Winners

Kansas City, MO- For the second year in a row Texas A&M-San Antonio was named Gold Star Award winners by the NAIA's Champions of Character program.

Institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earn points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year. Winners are put into three categories, Gold Star, Silver Star, and Bronze Star with Gold being the highest achievement.

Darnell Smith, Athletic Director, commented, "We are in the business of producing student-athletes that are not just champions within their respective sports but, more importantly, in life, and that might come off a little cliché or what have you, but that truly is our guiding principle here at A&M-San Antonio. Us achieving a Gold Star again is a testament to that. It is something that our coaches and student-athletes achieved that our entire institution can be proud of."
